Scholars Association sets new goals
Inspired graduates strive to create greater community awareness

  November 9, 2000 marked a special day in the history of the Lyford Cay Scholars Association. On that day, scholars pledged their commitment to help promote the Association through community work. They also agreed to work on building stronger relationships within the Association. The inspired group includes Vanessa Riley, Laura Stuart, Kevin Sweeting, Ana Christie, Kevin McDonald, Florinda Thompson and Valencia Hepburn.  

  Kevin Sweeting obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Florida International University (FIU) in 1997. He is an Assistant Civil Engineer in the Civil Design Section of the Ministry of Public Works. Kevin is a member of the Community Service Project Committee.

  Florinda is a 1998 graduate of Johnson and Wales University, where she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts Management and Food Services.
She is head chef at Baccarate, a French gourmet restaurant at Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort. Florinda is Chairperson of the Scholars Web Page Design Committee.

  Vanessa is a 2000 graduate of the Alan Feinster Graduate School at Johnson and Wales University, Rhode Island. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and obtained her Masters degree in Culinary Arts. She serves as the Purchasing and Stores Manager at the Lyford Cay Club. Vanessa is Publications Committee Chairperson of the College Survival Handbook.

  Ana is a 1990 International Studies graduate of Barry University in Miami Shores. After spending four years at the Department of Archives, she is now a Securities Administrator. Ana is the Chairperson of the Seminar/ Workshop Committee.

  Valencia is Assistant Fund Accountant at Fortis Fund Services (Bahamas) Ltd. She is a 1999 graduate of the University of Western Ontario, London. Valencia received her Bachelor’s degree in Economics. Valencia is a member of the Thank You to Benefactors Committee.

  Laura is a 1994 graduate of Clark Atlanta University, Atlanta, Georgia where she majored in Sociology and Criminal Justice. She is a member of the Royal Bahamas Police Force and works in the National Criminal Intelligence Unit/Interpol as a Crime Analyst. She is Chairperson of the Community Service Project Committee.

  Kevin McDonald is a Licensed Professional Engineer under the Florida Board of Professional Engineers. He is a 1995 Mechanical Engineering graduate of Florida International University. Kevin is a Mechanical Engineer at Brown and Associates Engineers and Consultants. He is a member of the Community Service Project Committee.
