Community service in action

Scholars kick off Unity House project – cleaning, painting on agenda

Members of the Lyford Cay Foundation Scholars Association made a special delivery to the folks of Unity House on Saturday, March 17, 2001. It’s a part of the scholars’ plan to give back a little of what the Lyford Cay Foundation has given to them. The former recipients of Foundation scholarships gave gifts of grocery items and other much-needed supplies to the residents of the home for elderly citizens. In upcoming months, scholars will spend their Saturday mornings painting the walls and cleaning the grounds a Unity House

More than 800 professional women and men have passedthrough the doors of the Foundations and are now looking back to thank the benefactors who have helped them along the way.
Members of the Community Service Committee are: Cherrylee Pinder, Clark Atlanta University, ’94; Madonna Bonamy-Bethel, Acadia University, ’94; Keith Bell, UWI, ’00; Darnell Bain, Taylor University, ’87; Kimbler Romer, St Benedict University, ’98; Bridgette Seymour, Berkley University, ’99; Caralyn Adderley, Tuskegee University, ’96; Kevin Sweeting, FIU, ’97; Laura Stuart, Clark Atlanta University, ’94; Charessa Simmons, Belmont Abbey, ’93.

••• Life Speaks to Triom

I am a fringe group
Unto myself
I am an enigma
To those who know me
I am a mystery
For the maladjusted
I am a riddle
For the humorless masses
I am a question
For the uneducated
I am a wonder
To the small and awestruck
I am a fairy tale
To those who lack imagination
I am a superstition
To the religious
I am the border
To those looking to cross me
I am a book
For the illiterate
I am a sunset
To the sightless
I am the world without end
Amen
Amen.
