  Words of Wisdom to Students
The annual new and continuing LCF Scholarship Recipients Luncheon was held on August 10 at the British Colonial Hilton.
Many scholars were invited to share the involvements and affairs of the Lyford Cay Scholars Association.
Keynote speaker and past Lyford Cay scholar, Dr. Ian Strachan, playwright/lecturer/ poet, told students they have earned the responsibility to return home and tackle a myriad of problems.
Damien Archer, past Bahamas All Merit recipient; Monique Saunders, recent graduate of Acadia University; and Alexandrea Gatis, a senior at Taylor University all shared their college experiences. The Scholars Association gave students a gift and a pamphlet of useful college information.

  The Cafe

A kaleidoscope of laughter
Danced around
The dinner table
While all of us
Are able
To remember yesterday.
There was joy.
And there was singing,
While the memories
Were bringing
Long-lost dreams
About our future
And the friends
That we once knew.
Now take out the pictures
And the “oohs”
And the “aaahs”
While the keys
Of fancy cars
Tinkle like
A tambourine.
Doesn’t matter
What they’re saying,
What they’re thinking
What they’re drinking,
Cause it’s all
The same this evening
Sitting in
The café.
